When Lyrics Speak - Your Cries Have Awoken the Master

Sometimes we just need a reminder that God hasn’t forgotten us. A friend and I recently had a conversation about this. She has been praying for something for a while, and after a while of praying for the same thing with no answers, it can be discouraging. But recently something happened to remind her that God had not forgotten her. He was still working behind the scenes. Even though we don’t know how the situation will turn out, it was a reminder from Him that He had heard her.

I love the song, “Your Cries Have Awoken the Master” by the Bowling Family. So many times we think Jesus is just asleep on us, not listening, not concerned with us individually and where we are. However, He hears our cries, and He’s listening. He has it all under control.

“You’re up there worried that He’s fast asleep,
The winds are so deadly,
The water’s so deep, But try to be patient,
Cause soon he’ll bring peace,
Just one word from His voice and it all must cease.
Because you’ve prayed all night,
Cause you’ve held on with all of your might,
Child, your cries have awoken the Master,
Oh, He knows your voice,
Lift your hands; it’s time to rejoice,
Child, your cries have awoken the Master.”

We have the promise that He can give us peace in the midst of our storms. He has the power to change our situations and calm our storms with "just one word."

I love the line that says that He knows our voice. He not only hears us, but He knows that it’s us. He hears our concerns and our cries out to Him. He knows our situation, no matter how big or small it may be. So many times, we get wrapped up in small situations that we make into such a big deal. But God always hears our cries.

It’s easy for us to get worried when we don’t hear from God, or don’t see how He’s going to work things out. It’s hard to be patient and wait on His timing. We may feel that He’s just fallen asleep. But even though He may be sleeping, “child, your cries have awoken the Master.”
